OVERALL:
There’s optimism at New Hope entering the fall despite the loss of star running back and Auburn signee Johnathan “Rudy” Ford. The Indians finished 6-4 last year and missed the
playoffs despite having Ford, a first-team All-State performer who ran
for 1,669 yards and 27 scores. Coach Randall Taylor’s team is aiming for
its first playoff appearance since 2006.
RECORD:
Overall 3 - 1
*Non-Conference Loss to Ft. Payne, 42-7
Region 3 - 0
* Win over Geraldine, 50-21
* Win over Plainview, 21-16
* Win over Pisgah, 33-20
Bret Clark
Grabbed six receptions for 135 yards and two scores and threw a touchdown in a 33-20 victory over Pisgah.
OFFENSE:
Offensive line is a force to be reckoned with and makes it difficult to rattle the skill players. Leading the front is senior Dustin Maples, a Class 3A All-State honorable mention selection last season. “He’s just power," Coach Roden said. "He’s one of our best offensive linemen there is. He’s just a beast.” Offensive
guard/defensive tackle Jay Childers, a three-year starter, is healthy
entering his senior year. He was hampered by knee injuries the past two
seasons.
Replacing graduated quarterback Blake
Smith is sophomore Adam Browner (6-3, 205), a drop-back passer who will
also play free safety. Bret Clark, a freshman, is also a quarterback who
may play multiple positions on the field to gain experience.
The Indians love their ground game. They have three running backs that are very capable of moving the ball down the field. Jacob Warren (5-9, 185), a junior, will share carries in the backfield with junior Jake Wilbourn and sophomore Blake Jackson Warren
and Wilbourn (5-10, 186) combined for more than 1,000 yards and 14
touchdowns last year. The Indians rushed for more than 3,000 yards as a
team.
