Elkmont finished it's regular season with a strong win over the Clements Colts.  The Red Devils did some early trick and treating as they out paced Clements by
100  yards, 386-286.

“Clements is a dangerous football team with some good players, including a quarterback who gave us fits with his scrambling ability,” Elkmont head coach Sean Holt said. “We did a good job of not allowing Ontario Patrick to get loose for the most part and made some big defensive plays along the way to help us win.”
 
Game Summary:
Jared Bailey had a solid all-around performance, rushing eight times for 115 yards and a touchdown, throwing for a touchdown, intercepting a pass and recording a team-high six tackles in a 42-14 victory.

Zeb Pankey caught a short screen pass from Jordan Nelson for a 48-yard gain and scored four plays later from nine yards out for a 21-7 lead midway through the third quarter. Clements still had an opportunity to get back within a score, but a fumble recovered by Kody Clark and two 15-yard penalties preceded Bailey’s 55-yard touchdown run which gave the Red Devils a 21-point cushion and all the momentum.

Eli Hobbs (nine carries, 53 yards) had an interception of his own, racing 60 yards down the Colts’ sideline for a touchdown three minutes into the fourth quarter. Bailey added a 59-yard touchdown pass to Noah Sharp, who was the game’s top receiver with three catches for 98 yards.

Jared Smallwood, Preston Rouse and Leslie Thompson each had five tackles for Elkmont. Isaiah Fraze had a game-high seven tackles for the Colts, while Wilson, Cook and Lance Kephart each added four.
 
Elkmont (8-2) improves to 5-0 on the road, has won three straight and six of its last seven to enter next week’s playoffs on a high note. Traveling hasn’t been an issue for these Red Devils, so a road playoff game might be cashed in for an Elkmont win. Kickoff @ 7 pm; November 7 - Haleyville

 “We’re thrilled with the way the season has gone, but we want our kids to realize this isn’t over and we have more to accomplish,” Holt said. “We don’t want this story to end. We want to add more to it.”

ELKMONT WINS AGAIN

The  community of Elkmont has once again outvoted their competition to make the Elkmont Red Devils, the WAFF team of the week.  WAFF will be at the Hilltop today @ 2:15 for the Pep Rally.  The football team and Elkmont High School want to thank everyone for making them number one.  Proud to be a Red Devil!!!

THURSDAY NIGHT LIGHTS - ELKMONT AT CLEMENTS

The Red Devils have assured the #3 spot in the Region and will play next week in the playoffs.  Friday's Game has been moved to tonight at Clements High School. This is the last regular season game.  Since it was rescheduled, we don't get the Decatur Daily take on the game or prediction but instead a Hill Spirit prediction:

ELKMONT WINS BIG AGAINST EAST LAWRENCE

The Elkmont Red Devils football squad scored 42 points and held the host East Lawrence Eagles to 19 points in the Red Devils' league victory on Friday. 

Elkmont used eight different runningbacks and had six different players score in a 42-19 win over East Lawrence Friday. The Red Devils took a 21-0 halftime lead and emptied its bench in their final region game of the season.



Jared Bailey and Mike Tucker scored on 2-yard touchdown runs and Eli Hobbs added a 1-yard score in the first half for the Red Devils. Zeb Pankey and Preston Rouse each added short touchdown runs in the third quarter.

Conner Norman added a 25-yard touchdown in the fourth to finish the scoring for Elkmont. Zeb Pankey led Elkmont with five carries for 53 yards and a touchdown. He also caught one pass for 23 yards.

Quarterback Jordan Nelson completed 3 of 5 pass attempts for 72 yards. Jacob Anderson had two tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery for the Red Devils on defense.

The win secured the No. 3 seed in 4A Region 8 for Elkmont, which will play the Cordova (6-3), No. 2 seed from 4A Region 5 in the first round of the playoffs, Nov. 6.

The Red Devils now possess a 7-2 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Clements for a non-league battle on Thursday, October 30. Elkmont will face a Colts squad coming off a 42-0 league loss to Lauderdale County (Rogersville, AL). The Colts record now stands at 1-8.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS - EAST LAWRENCE

The Red Devils are traveling to East Lawrence this evening.  Just one more game left in the regular season schedule after tonight's match up with East Lawrence.  The Eagles have really struggled this year.  They have yet to win a game.  The Red Devils should shine tonight.  Go Big Red!!!

The skinny: It’s been a season to remember for Elkmont and a season to forget for East Lawrence. The Red Devils are headed to the playoffs as a third-place team. East Lawrence has scored just 26 points and been shut out five times. … Elkmont rolled up nearly 300 yards rushing in last Friday’s 27-10 win over Rogers. Mike Tucker had 120 of his 124 yards rushing in the first half.

Elkmont is probably going to be #3 in Region 8.  That region matches up with Region 5.  Fayette County plays Cordova today for the region championship.  Elkmont would most likely take a trip to play the loser in the first round.

ELKMONT MIDGETS CORRAL CLEMENTS COLTS

It was a fantastic day for football at Boss Hill Stadium for Elkmont's homecoming. The Elkmont Midgets took the field with their eyes on the prize, a win. 

 
The offensive line mixed it up with a collection of completed passes, hand offs, and great blocking. 

The defensive line held strong with their tackling and being ready for the plays that were coming their way. 

All in all, the midgets had an excellent day and stood together as a team to puta great win. The final score was Elkmont 52, Clements 34. Great Game Guys! 

The Midgets will face Tanner this Saturday at 4:40 p.m. in Athens. Go Devils!

ELKMONT GLOWS DURING SENIOR NIGHT

Both the Decatur Daily and the Athens News Courier have great articles about the game last night.  It is well worth picking a copy of both of them up.  If the Athens is sold out in Elkmont, you can pick up a copy at the newspaper office until Thursday.

Mike Tucker ran for 124 yards, including 120 in the first half, and Zeb Pankey scored both an offensive and defensive touchdown as Elkmont celebrated Senior Night with a 27-10 Class 4A, Region 8 win over Rogers.  The Red Devils (6-2, 4-2) piled up 292 yards on the ground and held the Pirates to just nine first downs and 149 total yards.

"Our goal every game is to control the line of scrimmage," fourth-year Elkmont head coach Sean Holt said. "I feel like we did that tonight, especially in the first half."
 
The sophomore Pankey got the Red Devils on the board first with a 3-yard touchdown run that capped a 7-play, 78-yard drive. Alexis Hernandez tacked on the extra point to make it 7-0 with 2:26 left in the first quarter. On the next offensive play, Pankey stepped in front of an errant pass from Rogers' quarterback Tristan Dailey and streaked 26 yards down the sidelines to push the lead to 14.
Rogers cut into the lead on its first possession of the second quarter when Bryant Wallace was good on a 47-yard field goal.

It was as close as the Pirates would get, as Hernandez matched field goals with a 34 yarder just before the half to put the Red Devils out front 17-3 at the midway point.
Elkmont extended its lead to 24 points through three quarters on a halfback pass from Jared Bailey to Noah Sharp and a 46-yard field goal from Hernandez.
Freshman Tikeathon Harvey scored on a 1-yard run late in the fourth quarter for Rogers' only touchdown.

"We've been stressing to them to close out games," Holt said. "We played hard until the end tonight. Our seniors have led us this year and it was a good way for them to out on Senior Night."

It was the first six-win season for Elkmont since 2011 and the Red Devils are set to snap a three-year playoffs drought. Elkmont travels to East Lawrence on Friday.

ELKMONT – Zeb Pankey scored a rushing touchdown and returned an interception for a touchdown to lead Elkmont past Rogers Friday.  Mike Tucker ran 10 times for 114 yards, and the defense didn’t allow a touchdown until late in the game for a 27-10 victory that clinched a playoff berth for the first time since 2011.

Sixteen Elkmont seniors were victorious in their final game at Boss Hill Stadium, as the win (Elkmont’s fourth in its last five games overall), along with Deshler’s victory against Brooks, clinched a playoff berth for the Red Devils (6-2, 4-2). Rogers dropped to 2-6 overall and 1-5 in region play.

“It feels good to guarantee ourselves a winning season,” said Elkmont head coach Sean Holt, whose team won a combined five games the last two years. “Rogers is a greedy, hard-nosed football team, and we had to find some plays which worked for us. Our guys played hard, and even though it wasn’t our best performance of the year, it was a good win for senior night. We fought through the emotions which go along with it.”

Elkmont finished with 345 yards of total offense while holding Rogers to 158 yards (79 each half). It would’ve been even more had Eli Hobbs’ 67-yard touchdown run in the beginning of the third quarter not been nullified due to a penalty. It prevented him from being the team’s second 100-yard rusher behind a strong night of blocking from the likes of guards Brent Stovall and Kody Clark, tackles Eli Vining and Travis Riggs, center Hunter Brazeal and tight end Joshua Carter to the tune of 289 rushing yards.

The Red Devils still came through in the clutch with Bailey’s 23-yard halfback touchdown pass to Noah Sharp for all the momentum. Alexis Hernandez’s second field goal, a 47-yarder, pushed the lead to 27-3.

“Our defense did a good job of not giving up the big play,” Holt said. “Our guys played well, tackled hard and executed our game plan. We haven’t played with a lot of leads in the past couple of years, but our guys continue to do a better job of playing with the lead and doing what they can to finish games.”

IT'S SENIOR NIGHT

Elkmont football is having Senior night to recognize our seniors tonight.  This is their last home game for the regular season for the 2014 season. They are playing the Rogers Pirates.   Win or lose, senior night is always a very emotional night at Boss Hill Stadium.  Good luck Red Devils.
