BOO AT THE BOSS - HALLOWEEN ACTIVITY - Last Thursday of Month

HOW IT ALL BEGAN:
2008 BOO AT THE BOSS
Halloween came a day early for kids in Elkmont this year. On Thursday night, the football and volleyball teams, along with the cheerleaders, band and coaches, all teamed up for the inaugural “Boo at the Boss.”
Because of the size of the community, the event was limited to grades K-6, but that didn’t stop people from coming out. Elkmont football coach Don Jacobs estimated that more than 400 people attended the event, so many that another trip was made to the candy store before the trick-or-treating ended. “We just wanted a way to be able to give back to the community,” Jacobs said. “They’ve supported us all season and it was just our way of saying, thank you. It gave the parents a chance to get a head start on the trick-or-treating by being able to hit 20 stations.”

Starting at the end zone closest to the field house, the athletes and other participating groups lined the field every 10 yards to hand out candy and pose for pictures. At the opposite end zone, kids had a photo opportunity in front of the “Burn ‘em up” sign before making their way around to the other 10 stations.

It was clear that the little ones were having a good time, but several of the football players were as well. “It’s fun,” senior Justin Marshall said. “It’s cool to know that they look up to us like they do. I use to be the same way when I was little, thinking that the football players were superstars, and now a lot of them look at us like that.”

Senior Lee Patterson was also in the mix of people having fun.“I think this is a good event,” Patterson said. “Several of the players have little brothers and sisters and it just gives us a chance to be able to spend a little time with them.” With the large turnout, organizers said they plan to make it an annual event.
