ADDISON WINS IN A HALF

As we know our Red Devils are in a major rebuilding year with a majority of the team being underclassmen.  Elkmont took it on the nose, August 19, with Addison winning 28 - 0.

Part of the learning process is playing in all kinds of weather.  The bottom fell out of the great sky water bucket and flooded the field.  The game was called at halftime due to rain.

The Red Devils will be traveling this week to Ardmore. The annual event is one of the highlights of each season. Be sure to get there by 6:30 pm if you want a seat.

WHAT DO THE PAPERS THINK?

Decatur Daily

Elkmont at Addison
Where: A.G. Hicks Stadium

Records: Last season, Elkmont (2-8), Addison (5-6)

Last meeting: Addison won the only meeting 24-6 in 1949

The skinny: This game features two schools that moved down in the reclassification for this season. Elkmont went from 4A to 3A. Addison dropped from 2A to 1A. Elkmont coach Sean Holt scheduled this game because he wanted to get his young team some game experience before next week’s matchup with rival Ardmore. Class 3A Elkmont is led on offense by quarterback Patrick Jobman and running backs Grant Murphy and Kamron Davis.

The Daily picks: Addison 20, Elkmont 13

ATHENS NEWS COURIER

Preview:
Elkmont travels to Addison to face a Bulldogs team that is moving from Class 2A back to Class 1A, where they've won two of the program's three state championships. Elkmont is also moving down a classifications — from 4A to 3A. While they are much smaller than Elkmont, Addison should not be taken lightly with most of its team returning from 2015.

Elkmont, on the other hand, has just four seniors and lost most of its production on both sides of the ball from a year ago. They will have a chance to get their offense in rhythm against a team that allowed a school-record 341 points in 2015.

Starting the season against a smaller school is normally a good idea, but playing one with a rich history that's had a full offseason to think about a disappointing season the prior year could be bad news for the Red Devils.

Players to watch: Elkmont RBs Kamron Davis and Grant Murphy — Davis and Murphy will split carries behind an offensive line replacing four starters.
Addison QB Bryant Ridgeway — Ridgeway returns at quarterback along with eight others on an offense that should be much improved.

News Courier Prediction: Addison 20, Elkmont 14

RED DEVIL FOOTBALL STARTS TODAY

The Elkmont Red Devils hit the field tonight in a season opener at Addison. Best of luck to them as they work to put together a successful 2016 season.

DECATUR DAILY SAYS:
CLASS 3A
REGION 8
TEAMS: Clements, Colbert County, Colbert Heights, East Lawrence, Elkmont, Lauderdale County, Lexington, West Morgan.
THE SKINNY: Perennial power Madison Academy no longer is in the region, but the league remains extremely tough. Colbert County and Lauderdale County return teams that believe they can make significant noise in the postseason.
POSTSEASON PREDICTION: 1) Colbert County, 2) Lauderdale County, 3) Lexington, 4) Colbert Heights
LAST TEAM OUT: East Lawrence

WHAT ABOUT THE ADDISON BULLDOGS?

Tonight is an away game and a long bus ride to square off against the Addison Bulldogs.  Biggest difference between the two teams is the size of the defensive and offensive lines.  It will be a tough second half for our smaller Elkmont team.  Hoping the boys in red get a great start out of the gate.

PRESEASON WITH DECATUR DAILY

The Decatur Daily has a preseason article about our Elkmont Red Devils today.  If you want a hard copy, check the boxes at Pig and the downtown gas station.  Article Link:  Elkmont Football Looking for Leaders

Highlights:
When there are only four seniors on your football team, leadership from each one is important.
Elkmont football coach Sean Holt is counting on senior running back Grant Murphy.

“He’s the kind of kid every coach loves to have on his team,” Holt said. “He’s quiet, but he works hard. He’s got a good attitude. He’s a tough, hard-nosed football player.”
Because the Red Devils don’t have the size on the offensive line they have had the last couple of years, Holt is switching from the run-oriented Wing-T to the spread formation. Patrick Jobman, a junior, takes over at quarterback. Murphy and junior Kamron Davis are the main running backs. Receivers include Hunter Pittman, Christian Green, Ben Hobbs and Davis Hobbs. Leading the way on the offensive line are Addison Cox and Braden Miller.

Names to watch on defense are Gabriel Gulley at end and Luke Glaunch at middle linebacker. Other linebackers are Clay Hunt, Peyton Lovell and Sean Jordan. Mark Pena is a leader in the defensive backfield.

“I wish we had more experience, but I like coaching and this is a good group to coach,” Holt said. “We have to work a lot on the fundamentals, but it is fun to see the players so eager to get better each day.”

PRESEASON LOOK AT THE RED DEVILS

Elkmont 2016

The News Courier had a preseason article about our Elkmont Red Devils, August 11.  You will be able to get a hard copy at the newspaper office until Wednesday afternoon.
Article Link - Plenty of New Faces

ARTICLE HIGHLIGHTS
It’s not hard to spot Elkmont’s senior football players. With only four seniors on the entire team, this will be sixth year head coach Sean Holt’s youngest team ever at Elkmont.  It’s not just a lack of seniors. The Red Devils only have about a dozen upperclassmen (juniors or seniors) on the entire team.

“We’ve got some kids on the offensive line that are going to be good, but won’t have much varsity experience,” said Holt. “We’re going to have to switch some things around from what we’ve done. We won’t be able to run guys over like we used to. I’m going to rotate bodies at the running back position. I like the guys we’ve got, but our numbers aren’t the best. It’s going to be by committee. Because we are so young, we are going to spread the ball around and see what guys can do.”

Juniors Brayden Miller and Addison Cox are expected to step up on the offensive line while Christian Green and Jesse Vining will contribute at tight end. The Red Devils will spread the ball around to a host of running backs and receivers including backs Kamron Davis and Grant Murphy and wide receivers Hunter Pitman, Ben Hobbs and Davis Hobbs.  Defensively, Elkmont will line up in a lot of three-man fronts to match its more athletic, but smaller personnel. Christian Green will lead the linebacker group and be one of the most experienced players on the team.

This is another building year for the Red Devils.
