HANCEVILLE - PRE GAME LOOK

1st Round Playoff game:

It is going to be a battle between the Hanceville Offense and Diamond Simmons #6 and the Elkmont Defense.  Elkmont will have to contain the running game and come up with some big plays.  It is crucial that Elkmont's offense is unpredictable and running on all cylinders; 3 downs and out will not win this game, no matter how well the Red Devil Defense plays.  The offense has to be on field and be able to keep the Bulldogs pinned back.  If the field gets flipped and Hanceville offense gets great field position to start their drives, Elkmont's defense will have a tough time of it.   Game at 7 pm; location Hanceville High School

SPIRIT ACTIVITY:   Red Out - Get Out Your Red Elkmont Stuff
Pack the bleachers and stadium with red to show support for our Devils!!!  Be sure to show you are an Elkmont fan by putting flags, writing on the windows or something else creative on your car.  It would be a great help to others traveling to the game and aren't sure how to get to the stadium.  Plus, in case an Elkmont fan has car trouble on the way, others traveling to the game will be more likely to stop .

The team needs you!!  Our fan section has a tendency to think they are watching one of the prim and proper sports such as tennis and golf.  Football is not a quiet game but a loud, rowdy one with fans that participate.  Teams with winning traditions have great fans.  Think of Alabama and Auburn; think of some of the great high school programs - the atmosphere is electric.  We need to up our game; it makes a huge difference to players - football is a game of  emotion and momentum, especially on defensive 3rd downs.  Perhaps, we just don't know how - be willing to stand up and cheer, be loud, have fun.  Join the positive nuts that are yelling for the team.   If you can't bring yourself to do that, how about shaking something noisy, cow bells are great but a cheap alternative is pick up some small rocks and put them in a plastic bottle and shake away.  Still too much - how about the ever popular rally towel?  Just bring a small white or red hand towel, stand up and swing it around your head (of course, don't smack your neighbor ).  It is more fun if you get a group together to coordinate your efforts - the more people, the greater the impact.  Remember this is your team; enjoy the game and have fun while you support them.  You will never know unless you have played how much a loud crowd means to the players.

If you are a student and have a friend on the team, grab some buddies and come to the game. Get there about 6;30 and sit as a group; the more the better Be wild, be crazy, be loud, dress up, be noticed, have fun - the team will appreciate your support. Us old people tend to worry about what others might think if we aren't dignified but you are young and don't care about such foolish things. Elkmont has some fun student sections in the past.

Think of it as college game day fan training for when you go to college.

GO ELKMONT RED DEVILS!!!!!

Hanceville Simmons RGB.jpg

Look for Hanceville RB/DB Diamond Simmons #6, 5'10", 175

Senior Running back: Do It All Player
23 carries for 369 yards and 4 TDs plus 2 INTs on defense against Hamilton. stiff-armed #2 twice on the one TD run and flat out ran over #1 on his last TD. Has nearly 2,000 yards and 28 TDs on only 123 carries. Against Winfield, he had 8 carries for 272 and 3 TDs in a half and a series of play on offense.
Hanceville's offensive line is more experienced this year - made up of 3 senior, 1 sophomore, 2 juniors and 1 eighth grader.  The quarterback is very fast and able to break big plays.
Comments about Elkmont:

"With Broc at quarterback, Diamond Simmons and Sheldon Lewis in the backfield, an offensive line that opens holes big enough for 18-wheelers to run through and a defense that can hold its own against any team, the Bulldogs just completed their first 10-0 regular season in school history and will look to start a deep playoff run this Friday at home against Elkmont.   “They don’t care what offense you run. They don’t care what kind of defense you run. They’ve got a plan to attack either one.

Hanceville’s got it all."

"...lastly elkmont(6-4) at hanceville(10-0). 31-19 projection. no disrespect but if elkmont comes within 12 points i owe someone lunch(lol). they have only been held under 40 one time(week 1 34 pts) and only give around 10 ppg. elkmont would have to hold them to there lowest point total on the year and score twice as much and what hanceville gives up on average." and ".....hanceville 40 or more. elkmont 20 or less"

" the Elkmont defense hits as hard or harder than anyone we have played all season"  from Fort Payne

"...They should get by Elkmont easily in round one to face either Glencoe or Madison Academy in round two."

"Elkmont is light years better than anybody Hanceville has played other than Hamilton. Very good athletes, a lot of seniors, and a very talented QB. Hanceville has all those things too but if they want to keep playing they will need the same kind of effort they showed against Hamilton because Elkmont is a very good team. Hanceville is good enough to play with anybody but they are not good enough to overlook anybody now that we are in the playoffs."

PREDICTIONS:
MSP - Elkmont (AL) at Hanceville (AL), 7:00pm [projection: Hanceville (AL) 31-19]

Dust Devil - Elkmont is going to win 24-21 in a big upset

Hillspirit - going with Elkmont, have a good feeling about this one

Greg the Fan - Elkmont (6-4) at Hanceville (10-0) - MY PICK - HANCEVILLE

Huntsville Times/ Mike Easterling - Hanceville 42, Elkmont 21
