TOUGH NIGHT FOR RED DEVILS

ROGERSVILLE — Samuel Grisham accounted for five touchdowns as Lauderdale County cruised past Elkmont.  Grisham ran for three scores and threw for two as the Tigers (7-2, 5-2) completed region play. LCHS will be the No. 3 seed from Class 3A, Region 8.

“We played as well as I expected us to play,” coach Bob Grisham said. “I like the way we controlled the ball and we had no turnovers and very few penalties. We’ve got disciplined kids and it was good to get a chance to play a lot of people tonight.”

After Elkmont (3-6, 3-4) went three-and-out on the opening possession, LCHS drove 46 yards in five plays with Samuel Grisham scoring on a 10-yard run to put the Tigers up 6-0. The Tigers increased their lead to 13-0 midway through the first quarter when John Trousdale took a screen pass from Grisham and took it 34 yards for a touchdown.

LCHS struck again early in the second quarter, driving 58 yards in seven plays. On a fourth-and-one play Grisham ran a keeper around left end for a 25-yard touchdown that made it 20-0.
The defense set up the next score when William Cook intercepted a pass at the Elkmont 19. On the next play, Zack Simbeck ran 19 yards for a score to extend the lead to 27-0.
Grisham later capped a 9-play, 81-yard drive when he found William Grimmett on a fade pattern for a 5-yard touchdown. LCHS took the 34-0 lead into halftime.

Grisham returned the second-half kickoff 60 yards to set up a 4-yard touchdown run by Noah Bishop to push the lead to 40-0 early in the third quarter.
LCHS scored again on its next possession as Grisham ran a keeper 45 yards to make it 47-0.
Grisham finished with 110 yards rushing on eight carries and was 6 of 7 passing for 75 yards and two touchdowns.  Elkmont’s only score came on an 8-yard run by Zeb Pankey with just over two minutes remaining.

The Red Devils will be playing Wilson in the final game of the season next Friday at Boss Hill Stadium.  Senior Night is always an emotional time when we say goodbye to our seniors who have participated in Friday Night Lights this season.
