MIDDLE SCHOOL FINISHES SEASON

The Middle School Red Devils ran out of steam against the Highland Rim Hornets by a final score of 14-6 on Tuesday night.

Highland Rim scored its first touchdown on a pass up the middle with 37 seconds left in the first half.

Isaiah Sutherland's touchdown pass to tight end Josh Burrows in the third quarter was called back because of a penalty, and Highland Rim took its 8-0 lead into the fourth quarter.

Following an injury to Isaiah Sutherland, backup quarterback Rowe Allen threw a touchdown pass to Tyler Burge.

The Red Devils mustered a goal line stand with four minutes left in the game, keeping the Hornets out of the end zone on all four downs.

An untimely turnover sealed the Devils' fate, resulting in a final score of 14-6. Elkmont had carried a five game win streak into its final game and ended its season 5-3.

Assistant Coach's Corner
Proud of how hard are young men fought tonight. 5 games in 15 days is brutal, but they fought through and finished strong. 5-3, county Champs, and a wonderful group of young men. I'm proud to be their Coach, and even more proud of them. A great season, and I'm already missing not having practice tomorrow. How sweet it is. Go Big Red.

ELKMONT MIDDLE SCHOOL ARE COUNTY CHAMPIONS

Rowdy Red Devil fans filled the stands and enjoyed watching Elkmont upset the previously undefeated Ardmore Tigers in the Limestone County Middle School Championship game 16-6.

Elkmont's defense set the tone by forcing a turnover on downs in Ardmore's first possession. Elkmont scored on its first possession on a Nick Gibson run and took an 8-0 lead into halftime.

Ardmore started the second half with an onside kick which led to Ardmore's only score of the day.

On Elkmont's next possession, it answered immediately on an Isaiah Sutherland run. Elkmont led 16-6 at the end of the 3rd quarter.

Neither team scored in the fourth, primarily because of Elkmont's clock management.

Elkmont's defense was hard-hitting all day. Hunter Broadway, Josh Burrows, Paul Gooch, and Devin Plyler's names were frequently called by the game announcer, often for tackles made in the backfield.

On the other side of the ball, the offensive line did a tremendous job of creating holes not only for speedsters Gibson and Sutherland but also for fullback Gooch who picked up much-needed yards up the middle.

The Red Devils' last game is Tuesday, at home, against Highland Rim at 6:00 pm. Highland Rim won the Lincoln County, Tennessee, Championship last week.

I'm thankful for the young ladies cheering, the awesome parents and grandparents that help so much, and the Elkmont community that came out to support us today. I promise you, we all noticed and loved having the big crowd! One of the best days of my life today, guys and gals. As I lay in my bed looking forward to some sleep, all I can think is how sweet it is. Go Big Red.

MIDDLE SCHOOL EDGES CORNERSVILLE FOR THE WIN

Elkmont Middle School survived a wild game in Cornersville, Tennessee.

Hunter Broadway returned a punt to the two yard line, setting up a Nick Gibson touchdown. This put the Red Devils on the score board first.

Cornerville added a touchdown of its own to tie the score, 8-8.

Later in the game, following a ferocious tackle by Josh Burrows and Paul Gooch, the Red Devils pinned the Bulldogs on their own one yard line for fourth down. The snap went over the punter's head and out of the end zone for a safety.

Cornersville moved the ball well in the fourth quarter. With the Bulldogs marching to the end zone, Westin Clinard's interception ended one drive.

Cornersville's final drive ended with a Tyler Burdge interception, resulting in Elkmont taking a knee for a final score of 10-8. Elkmont's defense continues to dominate.

In addition to interceptions by Clinard and Burdge, Jedidiah Sutherland also picked off a pass. Broadway and Burrows recovered fumbles at critical times. Elkmont improves their record to 3-2.

Appreciate our middle school cheerleaders.

A pick 6 put the Middle School Red Devils on the scoreboard first when Isaiah Sutherland returned an interception over 80 yards for the touchdown.

Tied 6-6 at halftime, neither team scored in the second half in a defensive battle.

East got the ball to start overtime, and the Elkmont defense kept them out of the end zone.

In Elkmont's first possession in overtime, Sutherland dumped the ball off to Nick Gibson who found his way to the end zone for a final score of 12-6.

Elkmont's defense was phenomenal, containing the Indians and securing the Red Devils' first victory of the season.
