Athens News Courier:
Two second-half scores — a 42-yard Alexis Hernandez field goal and a 4-yard Zeb Pankey touchdown run — were enough to earn Elkmont a 17-7 victory Friday against Westminster Christian at Boss Hill Stadium.
The win was the Red Devils’ first in Class 3A, Region 8 this season, with another region clash at winless West Morgan next week.
In the second quarter, senior Rhett Bailey threw a 45-yard TD pass to his brother, Jared Bailey, to put Elkmont on the board first. The passing play accounted for most of the Red Devils’ yardage through the air as they kept it on the ground to pound their way to victory.
Jared Bailey led the way with 21 carries for 105 yards. As a team, Elkmont (1-2, 1-1) rushed for 248 yards, compared to 152 for Westminster (1-2, 0-2).
The Wildcats had a chance to pull within a single possession late in the game when they drove inside the Elkmont 25. A sack and a forced fumble ended the drive and Elkmont held on for the win.
