RED DEVILS LOSE IN HOMECOMING

Homecoming on the hilltop was Friday. Elkmont hung tough with Colbert County for a half, but the second half kickoff return and five turnovers helped keep the Red Devils out of the win column with a 50-6 loss.

Elkmont trailed just 14-0 at halftime, but Colbert County returned the second half kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown to give the Indians a 21-0 lead. Two minutes later, they scored again after an Elkmont turnover.

Elkmont tried to rally, as Davis Hobbs found Patrick Jobman for a 22-yard touchdown to cut the lead to 28-6, and then drove inside the Indians 10-yard line late in the third quarter.

However, Hobbs' pass was intercepted by Chance Bates, who returned it more than 90 yards for the touchdown to give the Indians a 34-6 lead and put the game completely out of reach.

ELKMONT STATS:
Rushing: 10 yards  Passing: 171 yards but Turnovers: 4 interceptions, 1 fumble

Hobbs completed 10-of-20 passes for 145 yards and a touchdown for Elkmont, with Jobman catching two passes for 77 yards and a touchdown. Ben Besherse also had four catches for 71 yards.

Christian Green and Gage Hughes led the Elkmont defense. Green had 4.5 tackles with 1.5 tackles for loss while Hughes had four tackles, one sack and 2.5 tackles for loss.

Elkmont (0-4, 0-2 Class 3A, Region 8) will travel to face East Lawrence next Friday.
