ATHENS DEFEAT PEE WEE RED DEVILS

Playing a bigger school is always tough, and Elkmont's game against Athens on Saturday followed the usual script.  Down 26-0 to the bigger, faster Golden Eagles at half time, the Pee Wee Red Devils dug deep and held Athens to one TD in the second half, resulting in the final score of 33-0.

Elkmont was a different team after half time, led by Masin Morris' two interceptions, an interception by Jedidiah Sutherland, and a fumble recovery by Colby Murphy.  Normally relying on speedsters Morris and Isaiah Sutherland to move the chains, the Red Devils switched gears on Saturday to bigger backs, with full back Josh Burrows leading the team in rushing yards and Paul Gooch, normally on the offensive line, lining up in the back field once for a significant gain on a sweep.

In the first week in which the award was given, Burrows edged out Morris in being named the Applebee's Player of the Week.  The Red Devils play at Clements at noon on September 27.
