PRE- GAME LOOK AT WEST MORGAN REBELS

olemisscolonel3Class 3A, Region 8

Coach: Shannon Shaw (2nd season, career record 5-5)

Last season: 5-5

Top newcomers: TE/LB Colton Boyd (Sr./6-1/230), PK Robbie Binkley (Sr./5-11/300), WR/S Trenton Frost (Sr./5-11/150), QB/LB Sam Hughes (Soph./6-1/175), QB/S Grant Workman (6-0/175), WR/CB Raymone Hall (Sr./5-11, 160), WR/CB Shelton Stewart (Soph./5-11/165)

What to expect: The quarterbacks are young and will have to develop, but experience and depth elsewhere suggest the Rebels are ready to contend for a playoff berth after missing the past two postseasons. Shaw reports the players have gotten stronger in the weight room and should be more confident in his second season.  Junior running back Demetrius Warren (2010 All State Honorable Mention) will be back stronger and faster, should have a big impact against opposing defenses.

West Morgan is looking to make the playoffs for the first time since 2008.
"The way we finished last year, we think that can carry on into this year," said senior defensive end D.J. Warren (2010 All State honorable mention).  "We think we can win even more than five games.  We have a lot of the same guys back from last year."

Coach Shaw Comments:
"The core group of juniors and seniors we have are very close. We've got a good group of kids."

"I think we'e got more experience and there's been a lot of carry-over from last year.  But I don't know how that will translate in wins and losses."

"It would be huge for our kids to make the playoffs.  The seniors are the only group that has been to the playoffs and because they were freshmen then, they didn't play much.  For so long the pressure here was to get past the second round, because we never got past the second round.  Now, we're saying, 'Let's just get to the playoffs and if we do that, we'll worry about it game by game."
